The Nasarawa State Ministry Of Education in conjunction with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and UNESCO are on a journey to sensitise youth with the Lafia metropolis on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy.
Shortly after the game between Nasarawa Amazons and Confluence Queens, The CEO of Kids And Resource Center Martin Falana disclosed that the spread of HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy amongst girls has become rampant in our society this days thereby posing danger to the health of the people.
“We noticed that there are increasing cases of HIV/AIDS, Teenage pregnancies (Children giving birth to children, if we define a child as an individual below the age of 18 and when such individuals give birth, it’s alarming)”.
“Cases of Rape, Incest (Fathers having sex with their own daughters) a lot of these made African leaders in West and Central Africa to gather and hold a meeting where they came up with the commitment and from the commitment we noticed that they are saying that all girls must complete their education even if they are pregnant or not, they must go back to school and be reintegrated”.
”HIV/AIDS is something that cuts the dreams of a lot of our young people they need to attain greater heights, achieve their potential in life without contacting HIV. So we are out in support of the activities of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education and the SUBEB (The State Universal Basic Education Board) to curb the menace of HIV, Teenage pregnancy, drugs and substance abuse in our society”.
“Kids and Teens Resource Centre which is my organization is representing UNESCO in Nasarawa State to look for every avenue where we can get people and talk to them concerning the danger of HIV/AIDS and the dangers of teenage pregnancy so that this can be reduced in our society”.
“Now, football is one of those activities that is unifying our women, even our men too in Nigeria and the globe at large. When there is war, let there be football and you’ll notice that people will forget about the war and concentrate on football.
So we are using football to reach out to these players, gave them information about the prevention of HIV/AIDS and they will stand as organs of enlightenment among other girls in their communities, states to talk about the same issue, he concluded”.
