Former Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars top helmsman, Mike Idoko has described former Heartland FC coach, Christian Obi as a rare gem who complemented his football savvy with fear of God and whose death would be very hard to come to terms with.

Idoko said in an interview that working directly with Obi last season made him know the kind of person he was and that he found it very shocking and terrible hearing that such a wonderful being had died.

The former Warri Wolves Chairman noted that the former Flying Eagles goalkeeper would continue to be remembered for his humane disposition to life, his humility and his spirit of ever willing to learn.

“I feel really bad about the untimely death of coach Christian Obi. I stayed with him and he was such a cool headed person that was ready to learn. He was calm,.always jovial and above all he had the fear of God. I am really surprised and shocked and I really feel terrible to hear about his sudden death,” Idoko told journalists.

He further prayed for the repose of the soul of Coach Obi and also prayed that his immediate family members, Imo people and Nigeria will have the fortitude to bear the tragic loss.

“It is very painful and I want to seize this opportunity to express I and my family heartfelt condolences and sympathy to his immediate family and football enthusiast of Imo State. I lack words to truly state the way I feel but we have really lost a gem. I can never forget about him because he complemented his football knowledge with good character.”

Coach Christian Obi died as a result of complications that arose in the aftermath of the accident that involved one of the buses of Heartland FC, his last place of work, who were on their way to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State to take part in the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/ SELECT Preseason Tournament.
