Hon. Pharm. Yahaya Baba Ahmed, Chairman Toto LG has praised the organizers of the Nasarawa State U-13 Inter-Local Government football tournament currently going on in Akwanga.
While addressing the media at the opening ceremony, Yahaya Baba Ahmed said he believes events like this will help discourage young children from engaging in activities that will negatively affect their future.
“When I came into the office, sports is one thing I needed to drive to make youth contributions and commitments, also to discourage them from involving in social vices and to give them a sense of belonging, comfort of mind, happiness and show them that truly the Chairman is always on their side”.
“Immediately, I instructed the Director of Sports, Department of Social Services to make sure they engage our youth, to also get into the space of lack of total participation in activities as regards to sports. So the under-13 came onboard, I didn’t hesitate for them to mobilize the few human resources available to make this team available. In my opinion, Football is sportsmanship. You either win, draw or lose”.
“The commitment and the stimulation of youth to the future activity and empowerment becomes a major thing they have to socialize. They’ve seen their counterparts from other local governments. And I’m happy that Toto is partaking in an event of this magnitude, we will continue to participate and improve so that one day we’ll emerge as champions”.
“As I said earlier, beyond sports, there is economic empowerment, social advancement, growth for individuals in sports as a business, The former State Commissioner of Health Concluded”.In the opening ceremony, defending champion Lafia LG defeated Toto LG by 3 goals to nil.
