2022 Champions, Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme, NAYES, are through to the last four of the ongoing 2nd edition of Governor Abdullahi Sule Inter-Security Agencies’ Unity Cup Football Tournament, 2023.
They dispatched the Federal Fire Service by 2-0 in the first Quarter-final match played at the Lafia City Stadium on Thursday.
Familiar goal poacher, Jamilu Bilya-Usman netted in the 4th minute of the first-half before Aliyu Suleiman Galadima added the second in the reverse half to ensure the Abdullahi Labaran Maina-led personnel walk to the semi-final of the competition without conceding any goal.
In the other Quarter-final match, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, was in cloud nine as they brushed aside the hapless Nigerian Correctional Service by 3-1 in an entertaining duel.
After ending the first-half in a goalless stalemate, Civil Defence, restrategized and opened scoring in the 51st minute through Mohammed Ahmad, throwing their vociferous and entertaining supporters into a frenzy.
Bello Alhassan increased the goal tally to 2-0 from the spot, two minutes later.
Correctional Service fought back and reduced the gap from the spot via Mukhtar Ibrahim in the 57th minute before Mohammed Abdul Rashid restored NSCDC’s two goals’ cushion, five minutes later.
The result remained the same until the full-time whistle as the Civil Defence team joined NAYES in the last four of the competition.
NEXT QUARTER-FINAL MATCHES.
The Nigerian Army will face the Nigerian Police Force by 2.30pm on Friday, 19th January, in what has been described by many pundits as pick of the last eight.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, will engage the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in the last Quarter-final pairing by 4.30pm of same day.
Semi-Final matches are slated for Monday, 22nd January, and Tuesday, 23rd January, 2024, respectively, at the Lafia City Stadium.
