The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Gombe State Chapter, has congratulated the new management of Gombe United Football Club. In a statement signed by the chapter’s secretary, Williams Attah, SWAN said it is a welcome development.
“We welcome Anas Bamusa as General Manager, Abubakar M. Maina as Secretary and Ishaya Usman as Team Manager,” the statement read.
SWAN also commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his unflinching commitment to sports development in Gombe State particularly his efforts to bring Gombe United back to NPFL next season.
“The reorganization in the State’s darling team, Gombe United FC, is a clear commitment by the Governor towards the development of sports in Gombe State,” SWAN said. “We commend His Excellency Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON for his determined effort towards returning Gombe United to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season.”
But SWAN didn’t stop at celebrating Gombe United. The association asked the state government to extend the same to other sports associations, particularly Gombe Bulls basketball team which is preparing for the upcoming NBBF basketball league.
“While celebrating this significant achievement, we also call on the Government to consider providing similar support to other sports associations, such as Gombe Bulls, who are preparing for the upcoming NBBF basketball league.” the association said.
Also SWAN thanked the outgoing management of Gombe United led by Abubakar Abubakar for their services to the club. “We would like to express our gratitude to the immediate past management under of Gombe United under Abubakar Abubakar for their contributions to the club. We encourage them to continue to support the club and the new management in any way possible to ensure the club’s success.”
The association ended by calling on fans to back the new management and the team. “We also call on all Gombe United fans to rally behind the team and provide support as their encouragement will be instrumental in propelling the club to greater heights.”
This is as Gombe United begins a new era with hope of returning to the top flight of Nigerian football.
