FWC Champions FC emerged triumphant in their first match of the Nationwide League One (NLO) campaign, defeating Woodpecker with a commanding 3-1 victory. The thrilling encounter saw goals from Omafu Andy, Ugwu Kasiemobi, and Oko Joseph of FWC Champions, all scored in the first half, while Woodpecker managed to net one goal in the same period.
The electrifying atmosphere at the field mirrored the determination and skill displayed by both teams on the pitch. FWC Champions FC showcased their prowess from the onset, with Omafu Andy opening the scoring in the 30th minute followed swiftly by goals from Ugwu Kasiemobi 34′ and Oko Joseph 43′, putting the team in a commanding position.
Despite a spirited effort from Woodpecker, who managed to pull one goal back courtesy of a penalty kick by Obo Michael, FWC Champions FC held firm defensively to secure the win in their NLO opener. The victory marks a promising start to their campaign as they aim to climb the ranks in the highly competitive league.
Speaking after the match, Coach Bunmi Haruna expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, ”it’s very important to win the first game, we also scored three but we conceded one , but the most important thing is the three points, then we start to build on it”.
FWC Champions FC will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures against Flight FC.
Speaking on the next fixture the coach included that his side are ready ‘my expectations are always to win, we go back tomorrow to strategize on the opposition, we will be watching them this evening, to form our approach to game. But obviously we can’t afford to drop points, every game is a must win’.
