The Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Peter Abaje, has called on Nigeria’s only remaining representative in the continent, Rivers United to win its last two matches in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage and have a chance to make quarter-finals.

Rivers United play away to Academica of Angola this weekend and host Dreams FC of Ghana a week later. Victories in the two matches will all but put them in the next round.

Abaje called on the technical crew of Rivers United to weave out solid formations that will give them the edge over both teams.

According to him, “The technical crew led by Stanley Eguma are experienced in this business, and they know what to do. The team must beat both Academica and Dreams FC to give us a huge chance to qualify for the quarter finals.

“As Nigeria’s only remaining team in the continent, Rivers United should make us proud and help retain the country’s slots in CAF Competitions.”

He commended c for his efforts at getting all the necessary support from the state government in support of the team.

“I must say kudos to the Rivers State Government for giving maximum support to the team. This has really helped Rivers United thus far, and we are hopeful that more support lies ahead as they progress.

“Barr Green has also been great in the way and manner he has influenced support for the team; I do hope his efforts will be rewarded with progression into the next round,” he summed up.
