….Keffi Overpower Nasarawa In Rivalry Clash As Karu Spank Wamba.
Day two of the Nasarawa State U-13 Inter-Primary School Football Tournament holding in Akwanga witnessed some scintillating matches and results, with defending champions, Lafia Local Government Area, becoming the first team to qualify for the Quarter-Finals.
To do this, Lafia won their last Group A match 3-1 against Nasarawa Eggon on Friday evening at the Rishama College Football Field, Akwanga, after their 3-0 triumph over tournament’s debutants, Toto in the opening game, thereby securing six points in the three-team Group.
Hosts and 2024 runners-up team, Akwanga Local Government Area, massacred hapless Obi Local Government Area by 8-0 in their first Group B outing at the Mada Hills Secondary School Football Field.Second edition’s third place team, Karu, began their campaign on a winning note, pummeling former champions, Wamba Local Government Area by 5-2 in their first Group C match.
Doma Local Government Area who came 4th position in the last edition of the tournament started on a sad note, losing their first Group D match 1-2 to Kokona Local Government Area.
Keffi Local Government Area won the bragging rights in the rivalry clash against neighbouring Nasarawa Local Government Area, winning 2-1 at Mada Hills Secondary School Football Field.
There will be five matches on Saturday, 24th May, 2025, at Rishama College Football Field, with Akwanga facing Keana by 8am in Group B; Karu will confront Awe by 9am in Group C; Nasarawa square up against Doma by 10am in Group D, while Kokona will rekindle their rivalry with Keffi by 3pm.
Toto and Nasarawa Eggon, both without a point yet, will battle each other for a spot in the last eight in Group A as both sides face off by 4pm at same venue.Only two teams will advance to the Quarter-Finals stage of the thirteen-team competition which started on 22nd May, 2025, with Rishama College Football Field and Mada Hills Secondary School Football Field hosting matches.This is the first time since the competition began in 2023 that all the thirteen Local Government Areas will be featuring.
The tournament seeks to unearth budding hidden football talents in the State, commemorate this year’s International Children’s Day, and to celebrate the 6th anniversary of Engr. Abdullahi Sule as Executive Governor of Nasarawa State.
The tournament is sponsored by Hon. Aliyu Bello(PhD), Chairman of the State’s All Progressives Congress, and Founder of the Aliyu Bello Charity Foundation, in conjunction with the Nasarawa State Government and Nasarawa State Football Association, will climax on Tuesday, 27th May, 2025.
