Today is Thursday, 12th December, 2024. It is a special day in the history of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). I guess you are eager to know what is special on the 12th Day of December. Don’t worry. You will know as you read on.
Are you aware that the Federal Capital Territory was established on 3rd February, 1976? Are you aware that the FCT is 48 years old? These are special information about the FCT, Abuja.
Are there special events to celebrate or commemorate special days in FCT? This is a question that requires attention. I expect that 3rd February every year should be observed as Establishment Day, Foundation Day or any suitable name. This day can be used to unveil landmark achievement and activities that are development focused. These are the thoughts of Spectator. If there is no visible event to commemorate the establishment day of FCT, it will not be late to initiate it and celebrate it with effect from 2025. These are Spectator’ thoughts. This position of Spectator has also been forwarded to FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for possible consideration and action.
I guess I am making sense. I think so. Let me come back to the point of discourse. What is the relevance of December 12 to the Federal Capital Territory? Without any rigmarole, I hereby remind you that the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was officially moved from Lagos to Abuja on December 12, 1991. It is 33 years already. It explains how time flies. The FCT Football Association in 2016 decided to celebrate the 40 years of the establishment of FCT with the only Football Awards ever held by the FCT Football Association. The event held successfully. Kudos to the FCTFA under the chairmanship of Musa Saeed Talle. This date, December 12 which is today is a date that is open to every segment of FCT Administrative structure to initiate events and activities that will help actors to present scorecards of their stewardship. I think the FCT Football Association should be thinking of a second FCT Football Awards.
Meanwhile, I give standing ovation to all those who contributed to the development of the Federal Capital Territory to this level it has attained. I congratulate the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the good people of Nigeria especially those resident in FCT for their resilience in building of the FCT.
The Military Government under the leadership of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida officially moved the seat of Federal Government from Lagos to Abuja on December 12, 1991. Today is December 12, 2024. It is 33 years today.
I am Spectator.
