Yobe Desert Stars gaffer Ernest Jupiter expressed his disappointment in his side’s inability to get the maximum against FC Basira at the first match of the season.

Despite dominating the larger part of the game, Desert Stars came short thanks to a well headed goal by Chigozie Ani as the Baffa boys picked the maximum points at the Lafia City Stadium.

Speaking to journalists after the game, Yobe Desert Stars gaffer Ernest Jupiter said despite playing against a very good and young side, his boys should have gotten at least a point from the game.

“Normally, that is football, it is a game of luck a testament is the early goal FC Basira scored against us, it nearly demoralized my players because we came here to get the 3 points and go because when you look at the table, right from the first game this NNL season, you find out they have won most away games”.

“FC Basira are a good side with young boys coming up, just like my team but we missed a very critical goal which could have given us a draw or even a win I mean, we missed two clear chances”.

Ernest rounded up by applauding the officials of the game despite losing, saying their level as increased competition amongst team as MD1 many away wins.”The officiating was okay and fair.

That is why I like the officiating of this match week, that is the reason why there are so many away wins and draws, even in the Elite Division, yesterday I saw the Nasarawa United vs Lobi Stars encounter and the officiating was okay.

Referees are humans bound to make mistakes one way or the other but what we saw today in Lafia was a great performance from the referee, Coach Jupiter Ernest rounded up.
