The long-awaited host city of the 2024 World Teqball Championship was on Tuesday 10th September 2024 announced by the Fédération Internationale de TEQBALL (FITEQ) through a communique signed by Secretary General László Vajda.
Against the speculations that the biggest Teqball Championship of the year will be held in either a Pan-American or Pan-African city, instead, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam was announced. The championship will be held from 4 to 8 December 2024.
The statement reads; “Mark your calendars for an extraordinary showcase of talent and determination as athletes from around the globe come together in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from 4 to 8 December 2024 to celebrate our sport, our athletes, and our global Teqball Family at the 2024 World Teqball Championships.”
Five categories namely Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles will contested by top athletes around the world.
Mr. Vajda stated that while the national federation waits on FITEQ to make further communications on the event, he reemphasized “We acknowledge with gratitude that many National Federations concluded their domestic qualification tournaments by the end of July, the results of which, together with the World Raking as appropriate, will determine the eligibility of the athletes to be entered to the World Championships representing their country. FITEQ Competition will confirm the entries of each nation based on the five categories where world champions will be crowned.”
Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, is the most populous city in Vietnam, with a population of around 10 million in 2023. The city’s geography is defined by rivers and canals, of which the largest Saigon River is named.
You may recall that another Vietnam city hosted the 2nd Teqball World Series of 2024 with top athletes around the globe including Nigerian’s Victor Oyemade, who competed and won the Most Valuable Athlete – Men.
